Through its Urban Architecture, Matosinhos has undergone significant changes in the last decades. Resorting to the great growth of Tourism in the city, it has bet on initiatives linked to Culture, making its bases known to the public.

The canning industry, which was an important element of Matosinhos, has long needed a new approach. It was through the need for a space to sell canned food that a place was idealized where the products of the factories still installed in the Matosinhos Municipality could be found.

This challenge was launched by the President of Propeixe, Agostinho da Mata, being his primary desire the union of the canning industry, showing the best that is produced locally. The organization Propeixe, O.P. is a Producers’ Cooperative, formed by 26 fishing boats, whose Owners are the Cooperants.

The company is the largest Producers’ Organization at a national level acting in several sectors, through the rendering of transport services, importation and sale of fishing nets, fresh fish freezing, storage and commercialization of frozen fishery products in the Cold Storage Warehouse of Matosinhos and is the owner of the canned fish brand “Propeixe”.
